I. M. Meen - Scroll Archive (Notes)

This section of the Scroll Archive deals with the notes left around the magic labyrinth. These are often correspondences between I. M. Meen and his gnome workforce, though there are some between the gnomes themselves and others from third-parties.

Notes: Gnick to I. M. Meen

A note from Gnick the Gnome to I. M. Meen:
Hey there, Big M! Finally got the sliding walls to work. What you have
to do is pull the correct earlobe. Let me know if you think it needs
some adjusting.

A note from Gnick the Gnome to I. M. Meen:
Yo, Big M! I've got something to tell you.
Mr. Hardwick over at Sinister Structure Supplies says that if we don't
pay our bill, he's going to send a few ogres over to have a little chat.
What should I do, boss?

Big M:
I'm really sorry that my boys borrowed your Stealth Sneakers.
Although they told me that they have returned them, only Gnorbert
could remember where he returned them to. He said he put a pair on
Level 2 in the hidden room. The room is in the southeast corner of the
level. To open it up, push the hidden Push Button. It will slide aside,
revealing a passage leading to the room.

Boss, I can't seem to find the hidden tunnel on the second floor.
Would you come down and take a look?
I looked in the southwest, but it wasn't there.
Where is it?
I'll be down here for the next two hours.

A note from Gnick the Gnome to I. M. Meen:
Boss, we've got a problem with the valve door on Level 12. It's not that
the thing is broken, it's just that every time we get near it, that nasty
Sludgemeen shows up and starts flinging ooze at us! Isn't there
something we can do about it? I hope you know which one to turn,
because if you do it any other way, something nasty happens. Good
luck.

Howdy, Big M! Since we're a little ahead of schedule, we finished the

goodies in the hidden room on that level? Right now there are two
Explode-O Fruits, a pair of Stealth Sneakers, and a Fire Wand.

We finished the Illusion Tree on Level 23. It's in the south corridor just

you poke around a little. See you soon, Big M.

A note from Gnick the Gnome to I. M. Meen:
Big M, we've had some problems today with Level 11. First, Gned mixed
the Magic Mortar wrong, and it made the blocks fly apart instead of
stick together! One block missed my head by just a few inches!
Right after that, my secretary Gnancy called and said that the
delivery of Stone Statues was held up because of a problem with your
account! I called the supplier and convinced them to send the statues,
but when they arrived, one of them didn't work right. It kept catching
my crew and throwing them in a cell! I'll call the supplier later and
have them come and pick this reject up.

Hey there, Big M! Construction of the labyrinth is going according to

end of the week, and then we'll start on Level 5. Did you call Sinister
Structure Supplies about sending us more supplies? We need them to
begin the next level. Send Gnorris down with your reply.

Big M:
Do you think it was really necessary to zap all of my boys into stone
guardians? Now I've got to find a whole new crew before I can start
that other project you wanted us to do! It's going to be hard to find
such hard-working and dedicated Gnomes on short notice, but I'll give
it my best shot. By the way, this is the longest Gned's ever gone
without getting into trouble. I'd say he makes an excellent stone
guardian. Having him block the secret door on Level 29 was a great
idea, Big M. Talk to you soon.

Big M:
The Mad Scientists on Level 31 have finished the Invisifruit. I'd like to
give it a try later today. They're saying it works perfectly, but I'll find
out for sure. I know that Gnorbert ate some before the Scientists
finished working on it, and he hasn't been seen since. With any luck,
he's gone for good! I've placed the items you requested in the hidden

Invisifruit.

Before I begin the search for a new crew, can you give me more
details on the new project? Maybe you could draw some plans for me.
That would make it easier to figure out how many new workers I'll
need.
By the way, you should go down to Level 32 today. The Mad Scientists
finished Frankenmeen, and he's the scariest of your special creations
so far. I'd run if I saw him coming, that's for sure.

A note from I. M. Meen to Gnorris the Gnome:
Gnorris:
Have you seen my Stealth Sneakers? I had the mad scientists up on
Level 30 make a batch of them for me. I think those sticky-fingered
workers of Gnick's might have helped themselves, which makes me
very angry! Find them for me, Gnorris, and I might even give you a
pair for yourself.
I did manage to hide a pair on Level 1, in the secret room near the
center of the level. To get them, tug on the correct earlobe. That will
open the secret door. Bring me those, then find the others.

Your boys have gone too far this time! As if stealing my Stealth
Sneakers wasn't bad enough, I just found out that they hid a pair
inside one of the cells on Level 3! I guess those geniuses you hired
forgot that we use the cells to hold the little bookworms! Gned told me
that there is a Push Button in the last cell to the south, at the end of the
corridor. He said to push the button, which opens a hidden room. Get

Your boys have been sleeping too much lately! I caught them napping

hidden room, so I woke them all up with a little jolt of magic. Gned was
using my Stealth Sneakers as a pillow, Gnick, and you know how

I'm really, really angry! Your boys were using the new statue of me to
pound in nails down on Level 19! They're claiming that Gneville lost all
of the hammers, and my statue was the only thing handy! Gnick, that
statue cost a fortune, and if there's one little scratch on it, you're going

I just got word that your boys are playing kickball with the helmet

small fortune I paid for that armor, and the thought of those idiots
kicking it around makes me very angry!
I'm going to give you one hour to straighten this situation out, and then
it's magic time! You know what that means, don't you? That's right, I'm
going to change them all into stone, especially Gned! I think he'll make

Gnorris:
I want you to call my lawyer, Uriah Torte, and start legal action
against Preposterous Publications immediately.
They returned four of my stories unread! That's right, Gnorris, I said
unread. Can you believe it? These weren't just any four stories, either.
I'm talking about "Meenan the Barbarian," "Meen Meets Count
Dracula," "Meen for President," and perhaps the greatest of them all,
"Meen's Fantastic Trip Right to the Middle of the Planet."
Obviously, there was some kind of plot to keep quality stories away

Gnick:
You've got to keep your construction crew under control! Last night
they went up to Level 29, got into the laboratory, and nearly blew it up
when they began experimenting with some highly explosive
chemicals!
Although I realize that they are a curious bunch, one more stunt like
that and they'll all have a chance to experience life as a statue! Talk to
them, Gnick, and straighten them out. While you're at it, have them
return the vials of chemicals they "borrowed." Those chemicals can be

I had to use a little magic on him to make him more agreeable. Let's

Keep up the good work, Gnick. I'm glad to hear that you've got your

of the level, and I've been looking for it ever since. Please don't tell Big
M, Chief. I'd make a lousy stone guardian!

A note from Gnick the Gnome to Gnorbert the Gnome:
Gnorbert:
Where are those parts I ordered? I need the Magic Mallet right away,
since there's some major pounding to be done. I also need some
Explode-O-Fruit, which you can get from the Mad Scientists up on
Level 29.
Gnorbert, remember not to eat the fruit. I don't want to have to crawl
around on my hands and knees searching for your teeth again! By
the way, how are those dentures?
Get back to me as quickly as you can, Gnorbert. We've got to finish the
labyrinth by the end of the month.

A note from Gnick the Gnome to Gnorris the Gnome:
Dear Gnorris:
What's going on with you? You haven't been yourself lately. Gned told
me yesterday that you didn't laugh at him when he dropped a cement
block on his toe. Gnorris, we can't have you going around being decent
to people. You'll make the rest of the Gnomes here look bad. Maybe you
should take a little vacation. I hear Death Valley is nice this time of
year. Think about it.

A note from Gnick the Gnome to Gned the Gnome:
Gned,
I hope you're feeling better. I just wanted to let you know that when I
asked you to fix the door that was stuck on the sixth floor, I didn't mean
to break it down with your head! I guess it was an easy mistake to
make, since I didn't say how I wanted it done. See you soon, old buddy.

A note from Will Brakem Delivery Service to Gnick the Gnome:
Dear Gnick:
We dropped off the Push Button on Level 11 per your request, but
couldn't finish the job. Since one of your boss' stone guardians came to
life and started chasing us, we had to leave in a hurry. We didn't get a
chance to install it, so you'll have to do it. Good luck.
